Samara Haver will give an oceanography lecture online next week.

LEWIS AND CLARK NATIONAL PARK — Samara Haver is a researcher at Oregon State University where she uses underwater microphones to study ocean sounds. She will present a free online presentation at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 via Facebook Live on Fort George Brewery’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/FortGeorgeBrewery.

Sound in marine environments is generated by many types of marine life, natural phenomena, and man-made sources, such as whales, sea ice and vessel traffic. In this presentation, Haver will explain how she and her colleagues listen to the ocean, and what they have learned by eavesdropping in underwater ecosystems all around the U.S.

Nature Matters, “a lively conversation about the intersection of nature and culture,” takes place on the second Thursday of each month from October through May. Nature Matters is hosted by Lewis and Clark National Historical Park in partnership with the North Coast Watershed Association, the Lewis & Clark National Park Association, and the Fort George Brewery + Public House.
