Letter: Zoom debates feature local legislative candidates

Voters from Pacific County are invited to attend virtual debates on Zoom and Live Streaming YouTube for state senate and representative candidates.

The covid-19 pandemic has changed how candidates and voters communicate with each other. Virtual debates on Zoom and YouTube assure the safety and health of all, while allowing candidates and voters to participate from home.

The Republican and Democratic Subcommittee for Debates/Forums for Wahkiakum County has been having local virtual debates locally that have been successful. The subcommittee is now expanding to have a virtual debate for Legislative District 19 Senate candidates: Dean Takko (D), Wes Cormier (R), and Jeff Wilson (R) on July 15, 7 to 8 p.m.

The following Wednesday, July 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. there will be a virtual debate for LD19 state representative candidates: Position #1 candidates are Jim Walsh (R), Clint Bryson (D) and Marianne Everson (D). Position #2 candidates are Brian Blake (D) and Joel McEntire (R).

Our subcommittee is committed to helping voters get to know candidates and allowing attendees to ask questions they care about.

Voters have an opportunity to submit questions via email by 5 p.m. the day before the virtual debate to: wahkiakumrdteam@gmail.com. Attendees will not be allowed to ask questions during the virtual debate.
