NASELLE — Peyton Dalton had a 15-point, 10-assist, 10-rebound triple-double as Naselle ran Lake Quinault off the floor in a 73-21 win Thursday, Dec. 19.
Kaylin Shrives scored a career-high 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Comets, who beat the Lady Elks down-court repeatedly throughout the evening.
Misses near the basket led to a slow offensive start for Naselle, but Bella Colombo hit a three at the first-quarter buzzer to give her a seven-point quarter and Naselle a 14-4 lead.
The Comets then capitalized more on their fast-break opportunities in the second quarter, piling up 20 points in the period. Peyton Dalton took off on a defensive rebound to score, then ripped away a steal at the other end and fired an outlet to Shrives, who converted the layup for a 28-8 lead. Dalton fired a long sideline-out-of-bounds pass through two defenders to lead Jackie Steenerson to the basket. Lauren Katyryniuk’s buzzer-beater from 17 feet made it 34-10 at the half.
In the third, Naselle turned to its inside game as Shrives got 10 of her 16 points and Steenerson added eight on four-of-four shooting. Both went to work in the low post and ran the floor to get themselves open shots.
Steenerson finished with 14 points, and Colombo contributed 12, including a pair of threes.
