Ocosta defeats IHS 14-1 and 15-0

WESTPORT — Ocosta eased its path to a third consecutive Pacific League title, giving Ilwaco its first league losses by scores of 14-1 and 15-0 in a double-header Tuesday, April 16. Ilwaco fell to 8-2 in league play, while Ocosta moved into a first-place tie with Raymond at 11-1.

Game 1
Cole Hatton dominated with seven strikeouts and one walk in three scoreless innings in Ocosta’s 14-1 five-inning victory. Hatton also singled, doubled and walked twice.
Ghannon Whelden, Trevor Hutson and Chris Wood had Ilwaco’s only hits, all off Kobe Beck, who pitched the final two innings. Trenton Cox allowed thirteen runs, only six earned, in two and a third, and Bryan Sparks allowed a run in an inning and two thirds.

Jackson Wilkin’s second-inning bloop single was the only hit off Colby Scheubert in Ocosta’s 15-0 three-inning win.
Ocosta got off to a quiet start. Landin Frank retired the heart of the lineup, Beck, Hatton and Scheubert, in a 1-2-3 first inning. In the second, Cesar Martinez reached on an error and advanced to third with two outs, then scored on Harley Figueroa’s infield single just in front of the plate. But that hit opened the floodgates for the Wildcats’ seven-run inning, all the runs coming with two outs. The Wildcats scored eight more in the third.
• Ilwaco was awarded a pair of forfeit wins for the scheduled Monday, April 8 double-header against Chief Leschi, when Leschi was unable to field a team due to eligibility issues.
At week’s end, Ilwaco was third place at 8-2, and Pe Ell sat in fourth at 6-2 with splits against both Ocosta (11-1) and Raymond (11-1). Ilwaco has a home double-header against Raymond at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 (after press time), and closes the regular season with a double-header at Pe Ell Tuesday, April 30 at 3 p.m. The Fishermen are still looking to reschedule a rained-out double-header against 0-7 North Beach.
