ILWACO — Parker Kaech’s fast-break layups and Tenyson Ramsey’s outlet passing fueled Ilwaco’s 72-33 win over Chief Leschi Wednesday, Nov. 28. It was a decisive win against a team that tied Ilwaco for third-place in the Pacific League at 11-5 last year.

Kaech came off the bench for seven first-quarter points. With Ilwaco up 7-6, he buried a three-pointer, then followed with a steal and layup, a sequence that sparked a 24-6 run. With Joe Nisbett posting up, Kaech cut to the basket and took Nisbet’s pass for another lay-in for a 16-9 lead after a quarter.
Ramsey helped Ilwaco dominate the fast-paced game with defense and passes that triggered the Ilwaco break. He stuffed a shot attempt inside and found Kaech at the other end to start the second quarter, then hit Alex Kaino with another outlet to make it 20-9. Jeb Sheldon’s steal led to yet another Kaech layup for a 23-9 lead. Ramsey finished with seven assists, 11 rebounds and five steals.
Chief Leschi seemed willing to play at Ilwaco’s pace, but the Fishermen’s transition defense shut them down. Kaino poked it away from behind to spoil a Leschi fast break, and later added a block on another breakaway attempt by the Indians.

Ilwaco got its big-to-big passing going late in the third quarter. Tynkila twice passed from under the basket to Joe Nisbett open in the middle of the lane; Nisbett scored on both occasions, stretching the lead to 55-27.
Kaech, whose first five made shots were layups, beat the shot clock with a contested 17-footer to go up 63-31. Ilwaco went on to win by 39.
