Saturday, Nov. 10

CHINOOK — On Nov. 10 beginning at 5 p.m., the public is invited to the Chinook School Event Center for a fundraising auction to support the Harrell family. Beginning with a silent auction and cocktails, the event is followed by a live auction and spectacular dinner. The cost is $50 per person. KLIPSAN — On Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center, there will be a bunco tournament for those 18 years old and over, with proceeds going to support Team Dylan Defeat DIPG. Register at 3:30 p.m., play begins at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $11 person. There will be raffles, prizes, and a silent auction. The Peninsula Bunco Club is a non-profit organization so all donations are 100 percent tax deductible. Donations are needed to make this tournament successful. BAY CENTER — The Bay Center Women’s Club 8th annual Holiday Bazaar will be held Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at a new location at the Bay Center Art Center at 6781 Highway 101 at milepost 41 near Bay Center. There will be signs showing where to turn to reach the Art Center. Shop for that unique holiday gift while also enjoying holiday music and food. ROSBURG — Deep River American Legion Post 0111 will be serving their pancake and egg breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 in the Rosburg Hall. The breakfast features all-you-can eat pancakes, eggs to order, kielbasa sausage and ham along with coffee, orange juice and milk. The cost is $4 for children 3 to 12 and $6 for teens and adults. The proceeds from the event go to support the Naselle-Grays River community, veterans and area students. The Rosburg Hall is located approximately 8 miles east of Naselle. Turn south on Altoona-Pillar Rock Road and take the first road to the right just before the bridge. This is always a well-attended event and a time for enjoying the company of old and new friends while Legionnaires cook and Naselle-Grays River students serve the food.

ILWACO — Chinook Indian Nation will hold its monthly Council Meeting on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m., at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum; 115 SE Lake Street in Ilwaco. The meeting is open to all tribal members. There is no potluck at this meeting. Volunteers are needed after the meeting to set up for the annual Oyster Fry and Silent Auction. KNAPPTON COVE — On Nov. 10 Knappton Cove Heritage Center will feature a program entitled “100 Years Ago, Remembering 1918 Flu Pandemic.” There will be an open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a special program at 2 p.m. Volunteers will be serving hot cider and history. Come for the last event of the year, the annual tribute to the Lewis & Clark Expedition. This November as they remember the “horriable” weather as noted by the Corps of Discovery in 1805, they also remember the horrors of the 1918 flu pandemic. Right out of the time machine, Dr. Jay Tuttle, who was in command of the Columbia River Quarantine Station in 1918, will tell us what’s happening on the Public Health front. RAYMOND — Christopher Hall and the Comic Quartet will grace the stage of the historic Raymond Theatre for Sunday Afternoon Live on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Combining high culture with laughs, the audience will be serenaded with the beautiful music of the classics, accentuated with jokes and puns. Hall is the former principal clarinet of the Orchestre Metropolitain in Montreal. He now performs as a stand-up comedian with accompaniment by the string quartet, Arcobaleno Strings. In this music and laughter filled classical music show, the formal world of chamber music is demystified. OCEAN PARK — A Course in Miracles study group meets on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ocean Park Library community room. All meetings are open to the public and free of charge. OCEAN PARK — GriefShare classes are held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Peninsula Baptist Church 2302 Pacific Hwy. 103, Ocean Park. The program is nondenominational and features biblical concept for healing from your grief. LONG BEACH — The SmileMobile dental clinic is coming to Long Beach on Nov. 13 through Nov. 16. OYSTERVILLE — On Thursday, Nov. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. Dr. Madeline A. Kalbach’s Oysterville Schoolhouse Lecture will focus on the many ways in which birds communicate — with us and among themselves. She will accompany her talk with photos taken on the Peninsula. This will be the final talk of the Fall 2018 Series.

CHINOOK — Friends of Chinook School, with financial help from Ocean Beach Education Foundation, is once again bringing Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors to the Chinook Event Center on Nov. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. The actors, Christopher Salazar and Esther Williamson are coming from the festival’s School Visit Program in the Education Department. Both high school and middle school students will be attending workshops on Nov. 15 and 16. As a special treat this year they have added historical dress lecturer, Tames Alan, to the Blue and Gold Show. She will be performing “From the streets of Shakespeare” with costume. Both students and adults enjoy her show. Admission is by a $10 donation at the door. Beverages and snacks are available for purchase.

FORT CLATSOP — Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop will hold their next In Their Footsteps free speaker series event. Beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, “John Colter, Servant of the Corps” by Christopher Hodges will be featured. Private John Colter was a principle hunter and guide for the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery. His duties required him to hunt alone and search for the best trails through the west. He was the only soldier in the permanent party to leave the expedition before its conclusion, and he returned to the west five more times. As an authority on the passages to the northwest, he contributed to the founding of Astoria. Christopher B. Hodges is an historical fiction author with a great curiosity regarding how common people become historical figures. His writing leads readers to contemplate their own lives and their time and place in history. In Their Footsteps is a monthly Sunday forum sponsored by the Lewis & Clark National Park Association and the park.
