Ilwaco won a double-header in Tacoma against Life Christian 7-5 and 11-7 Tuesday, putting them in second place in the Pacific League. Ilwaco (9-2 in league play) held off a rally by Life Christian (5-3) in game one. The Fishermen then pulled off a comeback of its own in game two with a seven-run sixth.
Game One
Reese Tynkila scored three runs and drove in another in the 7-5 afternoon win, going 3 for 4 with a double. Ilwaco led 7-2 with two outs and nobody on in the final inning before a three-run rally by Life Christian. Trenton Cox, who would start the night cap, came on to put out the fire, getting Brendan Kaman to pop out to end the game.
Landon Frank pitched six and two thirds innings, striking out eight. He got out of a fourth-inning jam, picking off Xavier Jonas after Jonas’s leadoff triple, then striking out two straight hitters with runners on first and second with one out.
Game Two
In the second game, Ilwaco trailed 7-4 before a seven-run sixth. Jackson Wilkin led off the inning with a triple, and Ghannon Wheldon drove him in. At that point, Life Christian starting pitcher Xavier Jonas had to leave the game due to his pitch count. Four batters later, Tynkila broke a 7-7 tie with a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Two batters later, McMullen tripled in a run. He then scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 11-7.
McMullen was the winning pitcher with one and two thirds innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out three.
Ocosta (11-1) has first-place in the Pacific League essentially wrapped up, but the Fishermen put themselves in position for second ahead of Life Christian.
