- Around 100 people — including state Sen. Dean Takko, Rep. Brian Blake and Pacific County Commissioner Lisa Olsen — gathered Saturday to dedicate the newly renovated Chinook School classroom building. Now serving as home to a branch of the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau and the Chinook Food Bank, the facility will add more community and hospitality functions in the future. Friends of Chinook School Vice President Loma Billups, right, and President Eileen Wirkkala presented project foreman Corky Wilson with a blackboard pointer found during the renovation. Wilson, an alumnus of the school, joked that the rod also saw use as a disciplinary tool. In combination with the previously restored school gymnasium, the classroom facility is a beautiful addition to south Pacific County's roster of public assets.
