Fisher kings

A river otter sunned itself on rocks at Cape Disappointment during a rare break in the clouds last week. Along with some birds species, such as cormorants, ospreys and terns, marine mammals are humans' main competitors for fish on the Columbia River and nearby lakes and tributaries.

Interlaced with hundreds of square miles of rivers, estuaries, bays, creeks, lakes and ponds, Pacific County contains some of the best habitat in the Pacific Northwest for fish and all the other creatures that depend on them for nourishment.
