“This easy, half-mile hike along a sandy beach will introduce participants to the waves, tides, and currents that make our coastline awesome and dangerous,” Webster said. “We’ll discuss how waves are formed, what causes tides, and how currents act on the Columbia River bar. We’ll also delve into the ways these forces interact in unique ways at Cape Disappointment.”
Webster uses the beach as a canvas to draw huge maps and diagrams. Dress for the weather. Meet at the Benson Beach Amphitheater Parking lot at 11 a.m. for the approximately one-hour program. Leashed dogs welcome.
