River otters join the Columbia’s parade of marine mammals

- JANE WEBB PHOTO While photographers waited Monday for humpback whales to make an appearance in the Columbia River's north channel south of McGowan — they eventually did — this trio of playful river otters showed up just offshore. In addition to whales and otters, sea lions and seals are consistent residents of the river estuary this summer.
