ILWACO — Janeen Wilson, member of the Beach Barons Car Club, presented $1,000 scholarships to Emma Fleck and Abigail Bentley at the Ilwaco High School award ceremony on Thursday, June 9.

“The club was very pleased to be able to give a little help to two of our local students who already appear to be real achievers,” members said in a press release.

The Scholarship Committee reviewed 20 applicants for the scholarships. The students’ goals for the coming years, their grades and GPA as well as their commitment to the community in various projects and activities along with any further assistance they may receive to help with their schooling were all closely reviewed. The profession or main study the student had chosen as well as the fact that some of the students were planning summer work to build their assets for school also played into the selection.

“All of the applicants were worthy of assistance and it was a very difficult job to pick just two,” the Beach Barons said. “It was very uplifting to the Scholarship Committee to see so many students with such good grades also.”
