NASELLE — Emily Olson belted two home runs, and Wishkah Valley broke open a close game with a 10-run fifth inning for a 15-4 win over Naselle on April 11.

Olson’s solo homerun in the first gave the Loggers the early lead. Comets pitcher Taylor Eaton struck out the other three batters she faced in the inning. Eaton struck out two more in the second, but Wishkah added two more runs in the inning.

The Loggers led 5-0 after three and a half innings. However, Naselle rallied in the bottom of the fourth. Holly Dishe and Haley Footh walked to start the inning. McKayla Matthews followed with a hard ground ball to right, Naselle’s second hit of the game, scoring Dishe. Morgan Ridgeway reached on a throwing error that brought two runs in. With one out, Lilly Harman reached on another error to bring in a fourth run.

In the fifth inning, Olson’s three-run homerun just cleared the fence in left-center, where Dishe reached over the short wall in her attempt to keep it in the yard. The Loggers scored 10 runs on nine hits in the inning.

The game ended after five innings. The Comets got only two hits against Wishkah starter Megan Hill, singles by Makayla Matthews and Tayler Ford.

Naselle scored 18 runs in the second and crushed Taholah 22-1 in three innings on April 15. Kendra Leeland opened scoring with an RBI triple during a four-run first inning. Tayler Ford went four for four with a double, including three hits in the second inning.

Taylor Eaton struck out three batters in two innings, allowing a hit and three walks. Ford worked the final inning, allowing a run and striking out one batter. It was a short game and Taholah put few balls in play, but the Comets fielded well in their limited chances. McKayla Matthews moved from her usual position at first over to second base in the third inning. She was successful there, twice throwing hitters out at first. Holly Dishe, who has mostly played the outfield, got the start at third base and also threw two batters out.
