If you didnt have to work for a living, what would you do instead?
I would travel. I would go places, but I wouldnt just travel to see things, Id hunker down in places. If I had limitless funds, I would just go and stay until I became a part of somewhere and didnt want to leave, or Id just go somewhere else. I wouldnt travel in the traditional sense, just move move multiple times.
In your opinion, what is the greatest challenge the world faces today?
Well, I think the biggest challenge is remembering how to take care of others, how to help others, how to see the other side. Just because you think one way is right doesnt mean there arent other perspectives. I think we forget because were so worried about our own viewpoints, were so worried about our own perspectives, that weve become very arrogant in our viewpoint. We dont listen, we dont consider the other side. I dont know, I think we need to figure out how to listen to each other and get along. And maybe its just in the country, maybe theres a bigger issue around the world. You dont see people put aside their own self interests to see the bigger picture. I think in other parts of the world as well, theyre so worried about their own agenda that the agenda becomes all important and you forget about the people.
Aside from a property, whats the most expensive thing youve bought?
My car. I usually take cheap cars, but on my last day of being 49, I bought myself one of the new Mustangs.
Who is your hero?
My mom. Because she always thought the best of everyone no matter what and loved everybody no matter what. Our house growing up was the gathering place, where everybody came. If the kids didnt like being at home, they came to our house. She took in more than one waif over the years. And she was a hospice nurse, so if you can do that, you can do anything. She was very highly thought of, I cant think of anybody ever saying anything bad about her. She was amazing.
If you could have an all expenses paid vacation, where would you choose to go and what would you do?
I would go to Ireland and I would just live. Ive been over there and seen the things that youre supposed to see, but Id want to live there and just be a part of it. But theyd have to pay me a lot for it, because I might go there and never come back! That or Switzerland.
Which song would you like played at your funeral?
Sunshine Song by the Shoemaker Brothers.
Have you ever walked out of a movie?
The Godfather. I didnt like it then, and to this day I still dont like it.
What was your last nightmare about?
I have these recurring nightmares that planes start falling out of the sky. Im at the airport and watching planes fall to the ground, and all of a sudden Im on one and were trying to dodge trees and telephone wires. And it never crashes, but I watch the others crash. I dont like that.
When was your proudest moment?
I was going to say when my kids were born, but being proud means you actually did something and I didnt really. That was going to happen whether I did anything or not! Moving down the list from there, I think it was finally getting my bachelors degree because I was older when I got it. Whenever I get a degree, thats the best, because thats something you work for individually.
Whats your favorite smell?
My favorite would have to be campfire. Sometimes Ill go outside and Ill say, It smells good out here. And Ron will say, Theyre just burning garbage. Well I dont care, it smells like campfire.
