Wiegardt artwork raffle

    LONG BEACH  The Canoe, an original artwork by Eric Wiegardt, is being sold by raffle tickets, with the drawing to be held at 7 p.m., on Dec. 19 at the Long Beach fire hall. Tickets are $5 each, with only 1,000 total tickets available. The print is valued at $1,200 and is 22×30 in size. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit fireman Dave Unruh, who is going through a serious medical situation. Contact David Glasson to purchase tickets at 244-9041.

Chinook food bank

    CHINOOK The Friends of Chinook School is sponsoring the Chinook Food Bank in the Chinook School building at 810 State Route 101 in Chinook. The food bank will be open on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call Loma at 777-8367 with questions.

Neptune Classic Movies

    LONG BEACH The Neptune Twin Cinemas offers family and classic movies with no charge for admission, subject to capacity. Winter heating help

    PACIFIC COUNTY The low-income home energy assistance program is starting soon. Coastal Community Action Program is now making appointments. The program provides financial assistance to help income eligible households make home heating more affordable. If you live in the Raymond/South Bend area, you can call 942-5739 between    10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to make an appointment. For all other areas please call 533-5100 or 800-828-4883 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to make an appointment. Appointments can be made online at www.coastalcap.org.  Income guidelines apply.

Kite Festival posters

    LONG BEACH  The Washington State International Kite Festival is beginning the process to select the artwork for the 2013 Kite Festival poster. Spiritual gathering

    LONG BEACH On Dec. 21 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., everyone is invited to a spiritual gathering on the Bolstad beach approach near the arch. People of all faiths are welcome to this first gathering. The walk will begin towards the ocean with a song Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Attendees are encouraged to bring a poem, a song or quote that you wish to share. Movie marathon

    RAYMOND Raymond Timberland Library is hosting a winter movie marathon on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 for all ages. When school is out for the holidays visit the library for a movie marathon. Free Lunch program

    OCEAN PARK The Community Table free lunch program needs your help. The all volunteer hot lunch program prepares about 100 meals each week at a cost of $2 per meal, with 100 percent of your tax deductible donation going to provide a hot meal for your neighbors in Ocean Park and nearby. Libraries closed

    WASHINGTON  All branches of the post office will close at noon on Monday, Dec. 24 and will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25 for the holiday. They will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Observer closed

    LONG BEACH The Chinook Observer will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25, along with the banks, credit unions, post offices, and all city, county, state and federal offices. All will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Holidaze

    ILWACO and NASELLE On Dec. 29 all ages are invited to come join Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth from 11 a.m. to noon at the Ilwaco library and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Naselle library as they Celebrate the Holidaze. Attendees are sure to enjoy their music, comedy, ventriloquism and more. Ride along the Polar Express with Peter, Elvis and Buddy the Crow. Do the Snow Dance and sing-a-long to Rudolphs Medley. Clamming

    PENINSULA A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point from Saturday, Dec. 29 through Monday, Dec. 31, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each diggers clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Living well workshop

    OCEAN PARK Ocean Beach Hospital in collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) has scheduled a free workshop open to the public entitled, Living Well With Chronic Conditions. This workshop will be held on Thursdays, from         1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., for six consecutive weeks. The classes will be held on Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14 at the Family Worship Center at 264th and Ridgeway in Ocean Park. Two specifically trained leaders will facilitate the workshop. This program is designed to help anyone who suffers from a chronic condition, including diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis and hypertension just to name a few; to lessen their stress and frustration, manage symptoms and deal with fatigue. The goal of the program is to help these individuals live a healthy life even with chronic conditions by managing symptoms. Those who are caring for someone with a chronic condition are also encouraged to attend. Each participant will have access to a Living Well With Chronic Conditions book. The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Old Time Loggers Reunion

    NASELLE  Appelo Archives Center at 1056 State Route 4 in Naselle, is pleased to sponsor the third annual Old Time Loggers Reunion on Saturday, Jan. 26 from noon to 4 p.m. This event is intended to bring together loggers of all ages and their families, as well as community members who want to honor the logging industrys history in the Lower Columbia. Everyone who was, or still is, involved in the timber industry is encouraged to come. While there is no cost to attend, they always appreciate a donation to the center.

Mardi Gras coming

    ILWACO On Saturday Feb. 23, 2013, Ocean Beach Hospital Foundation will be holding their annual auction as a Mardi Gras-themed, fantastic celebration, in lieu of their usual holiday Celebration of Lights.
