Flu shots

    LONG BEACH The Pacific County Health Department is holding a flu shot clinic at the Long Beach office on Sandridge Road. The cost is $25. Make your appointments for the clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., by calling 642-9349, ext. 2 to schedule your time. Pacific County Health Department accepts Medicaid/Medicare but does not bill supplemental insurances or private insurance.

Halloween Carnival

    LONG BEACH On Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to        7 p.m., at the Long Beach Elks Lodge there will be a carnival for kids at North 2nd Street and Oregon N., next to the Long Beach Post Office. This event is open to the public.

Halloween Treats

    KLIPSAN All the little tykes are invited to trick or treat at Golden Sands Assisted Living in Klipsan at 5 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 31. This is a safe, fun and warm way to trick or treat! Spread cheer and help with the food drive by bringing a non-perishable food donation!

Neptune Classic Movies

    LONG BEACH The Neptune Twin Cinemas offers family and classic movies with no charge for admission, subject to capacity. All family and classic shows begin at 1 p.m. The movie on Oct. 31 is Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore. 1990. 127 min.

Bunco for Food4Kids

    LONG BEACH The Long Beach Elks holds bunco the first and third Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m., at 110 N. Pacific Highway. November games will be on Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. These are potluck gatherings so bring something to share. The cost is $5, which goes to support the Food4Kids backpack program. Prizes will be awarded to winners. This program provides a backpack with food for needy kids to take home on Fridays so they have something to eat on the weekend. If you have questions call 642-8244.

Aging council call

Bake sale & bazaar

    SEAVIEW  From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3, there will be a holiday bake sale and bazaar at the Peninsula Church Center at 5000 N Place in Seaview. There will be homemade pies, pottery, cranberry baskets, jewelry, knitting, wooden puzzles, photography, hand-sewn items, books, glassworks, watercolors and more. Ocean Beach Presbyterian Womens Association will receive 15 percent of vendor proceeds to help fund mission work both locally and abroad.

Photo Contest

    PACIFIC COUNTY Camera enthusiasts are invited to submit entries to a fall photo festival sponsored by the Friends of the Willapa Wildlife Refuge. Closing date for pictures featuring refuge scenery and plants or local wildlife will be Nov. 2. There are three subject categories  refuge scenes, wildlife and native flora. Entry photographs need to be 8×10 inches (preferably glossy print) and can be left at the Picture Attic located in Long Beach or at the Refuge office at 3888 State Route 101 in Ilwaco, along with the entry fee of $10. At the annual membership meeting on Nov. 10, the entries will be displayed and attendees will select their favorite. The first Pprize winner will be awarded $50, a years membership in the Friends of the Willapa Wildlife Refuge organization and display of the winning photo in 2013 Friends publications and on its website. Second and third place photographers will receive prizes of $30 and $20 respectively and a Friends T-shirt. Music Celebration

    ASTORIA  Bach n Rock Around the Clock is a 26-hour non-stop celebration of the performing arts which will be held on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 in Astoria in support of the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center.  The event features performances of music across all genres including classical, choral, jazz, rock, folk as well as dance and theater. The celebration starts on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and will end sometime on Saturday evening with a jam session scheduled for 9 p.m. Admission buttons which provide entry for the entire event are $10 and will be available at the door and in advance from the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce in Astoria.  For schedule information: www.supportthepac. org/events.html

Rummage sale

    RAYMOND  Pacific County Senior Center at 324 Jackson Street in Raymond is having a rummage and bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Senior Nutrition Program. Elk chili feed

    NEMAH  Nemah elk hunters are holding a chili feed from     5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Nemah School at milepost 35 on Highway 101. In addition to chili, the menu includes oysters, salads, homemade pies and more. Everyone is welcome to this annual all-you-can-eat feed.

Benefit dinner

    LONG BEACH On Saturday, Nov. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department will host a benefit dinner for Dave Unruh at the Long Beach Elks Lodge. Unruh, a 29-year veteran firefighter and former fire chief, has been diagnosed with cancer. So to help with the costs of his upcoming treatment, the department will be serving plates of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread for $10 for adults and $5 for kids. This wont be just any spaghetti dinner, it will be prepared by Willie and Roberta Marsh. Plus there will be a raffle for a variety of great items. The Elks Lodge is located at 110 N. Pacific Highway in Long Beach. There is an account set up at Bank of the Pacific to help this family.

Sunday, Nov. 4

Bayside Singers perform

    CHINOOK Beginning at 3 p.m., on Sunday Nov. 4 at the Fort Columbia Theatre in Chinook, the Bayside Singers, in cooperation with the Peninsula Association of Performing Artists (PAPA), present A Fall Concert for All Ages. Barbara Poulshock will direct the concert with accompaniment by Barbara Bate. Included in the program are solos, duets, small ensembles and choral pieces featuring the Bayside Singers as well as members of the local community. Concluding selections will be a medley from Gilbert and Sullivans The Mikado. Bring family and friends to enjoy a potpourri of lighthearted musical selections that celebrate the fall season.  Tickets are $5 at the door. The Discover Pass is not required for this event.

Interfaith gathering

    NASELLE All are welcome to join the Columbia Shores Interfaith gathering on the first Sunday of each month at the Naselle library community room beginning at 11 a.m. All paths and faiths are welcome. Community Historian Project

    ILWACO  The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is hosting the Community Historian Project which includes 15-weeks of one-day classes, speakers, tours, demonstrations and opportunities (January through April) followed by an additional 15 hours of advanced training. The goal of the project is to develop a cohesive group of knowledgeable people who can be called upon for information and who can become a heritage resource to their communities. Emergency preparedness info

    SURFSIDE The Community Relations Committee of the Surfside Homeowners Association will host Ed Archer of Washington State Emergency Management at their regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6 beginning at 1 p.m. The topic will focus on team building and information preparation prior to a natural emergency, especially in regard to specific needs of the elderly, disabled, children or others who may be alone or in need of assistance after such an event. Although the emphasis will be on Surfside preparation, attendance is open to all, as the basic information is applicable to everyone in the community at large. Red Hats luncheon

    LONG BEACH  The local Red Hats will go out to lunch at the Cove Restaurant located at Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 11:30 a.m.  Come, wear your red hat, and bring a friend. There will be no Thanksgiving dinner this year.

    CHINOOK The Friends of Chinook School is sponsoring the Chinook Food Bank in the Chinook School building at 810 State Route 101 in Chinook. Christmas bazaar

    SEAVIEW  St. Marys Parish in Seaview will hold their annual Christmas bazaar Nov. 8 through Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to     4 p.m. Lunch and desserts will be available.

World War II music

    ILWACO  Ilwaco Timberland Library is hosting a session called Sentimental Journey: Songs and Stories from WWII. This event is set for 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., Nov. 9 for adults. Wearing vintage World War II military uniforms, singer Dina Blade, WWII veteran and storyteller Ray Puddicomb, and pianist Hans Brehmer will perform a USO-style show. The performance features popular songs of the era matched with stories of Puddicombs wartime experiences. The program is followed by a 15-minute question and answer period. Holiday Bazaar

    BAY CENTER  The Bay Center Womens Club is having their second Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to        3:30 p.m., in the old Bay Center Store/Community Center. Proceeds from this event will help to fund community projects such as free school supplies, new baby supplies, and other general projects. Monte Carlo fundraiser

    ILWACO On Nov. 10 beginning at 7 p.m., there will be Monte Carlo bowling at Hilltop Bowl in Ilwaco. The cost is $20, and reservations and prepayment are required. Jackpot tickets are also available for $1 each or six for $5. There will be money shots throughout the night. Proceeds benefit the local food banks. Ocian in View

    ILWACO  The annual Ocian in View cultural program is set for Nov. 9 and Nov. 10. As part of this program the historical significance of the newest addition to the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Middle Village/Station Camp Unit at McGowan will be highlighted. On Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., Canneries of the Lower Columbia by Irene Martin will be featured. This presentation is about Martins latest research on canneries of the Lower Columbia, and will focus on the McGowan Packing Company. On Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon, the Columbia Confluences bus tour will run. Join Jim Sayce, Washington State Historical Societys manager for local projects as he guides the tour and get a rare opportunity to tour St. Marys Catholic Church. The cost is $20 per person. Be sure to call the museum for reservations. Also on Saturday Nov. 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Chinook Tribe will host their annual salmon dinner at the museum. The dinner includes regional seafood, salad, Indian fry bread, dessert and beverages. The cost is $15 per person, seniors (55 and over) $13, children under 12 eat for $5. Veterans Day    

    LONG BEACH  Beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, the Long Beach Elks, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Don R. Grable Post #48 of the American Legion and Auxiliary will host an observance of Veterans Day for our community at the Elks Lodge in Long Beach. A meal that includes ham, green beans, scalloped potatoes and beverages will be provided.  All attending are asked to bring a dish to share: those with last names beginning with A-L, please bring salads and M-Z, please bring desserts. All veterans (anyone who served in the armed services at any time), active duty persons and their families and community members are invited to attend. Quilt Guild meets

    SEAVIEW  Peninsula Quilt Guild meets Nov. 12 for the regular monthly meeting at 1 p.m., at the Peninsula Church Center, located at 5000 N Place in Seaview. The special speaker will be quilt historian, artist and consultant Mary Bywater Cross. Her lecture will be Woolen Quilts: What and Why. She will be sharing information on woolen quilts, focusing on quilts as visual records of human activity.  She starts with Emma Geisy Wagner who settled first on Willapa Bay before moving to Aurora. She also will be showing some woolen quilts from her own collection. People are asked to bring woolen quilts to share, old or new. The meeting is open to all who are interested.     ILWACO  The Don R. Career Fair

    ILWACO Grays Harbor College will be holding a Career Fair at the Columbia Education Center in Ilwaco on Nov. 13 from    3 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is open to the public and will help connect our community to our local career opportunities. For information call 642-9433.

Clamming

    PENINSULA The next razor clam digs are scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Nov. 15 through Nov. 17, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each diggers clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Parkinson support

    OCEAN PARK A combined October/December Parkinsons disease support group meets on Nov. 16 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Ocean Park Lutheran Church, 24002 U Street in Ocean Park. The speaker will be from the Crisis Support Network and the topic will be information for disabled or seniors during an emergency or disaster. For information, call Patti at 665-3284.

Shoalwater Shenanigans

    OYSTERVILLE and CHINOOK  Shoalwater Shenanigans II is returning Nov. l7 to the Oysterville Church and Nov. 18 to Fort Columbia Theater in Chinook, with performances at 2 p.m. in each location. This program includes stories and music from early days in the region. Thirty characters from Willard Espys lively book of local history, Skullduggery on Shoalwater Bay are brought to life on stage by local actors. Admission is $5 admission at the door. Art show & auction

    ILWACO The third annual art show and auction, called 6×6 by the Sea will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17. There will be more than 70 wonderful art objects produced by over 60 regional artists. The silent auction is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the live auction starts at 6 p.m. All are available for viewing (no charge) at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco and on their website, www.columbiapacificheritagemuseum.org. Tickets for the auction are $10 each.

4-H Turkey Shoot Fundraiser

    RAYMOND On Saturday, Nov. 17 from 12:30 p.m. to          3 p.m., at the Willapa Harbor Gun Club at 37 Butte Creek Road in Raymond, youth through adults are invited to participate in a 4-H shooting sports turkey shoot. Tickets are available at the range and are $5 for 10 pellets. Oven ready turkeys and prizes will be awarded in each age category. (Air rifles will be provided.) In addition there will be a bake sale, silent auction and lunch. This is a fundraiser for Pacific County 4-H Shooting Sports Project. For information call Toni at 875-9331.
