PACIFIC COUNTY All children aged 18 and under can eat a healthy, nutritious meal for free Monday through Friday between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (If you are over 18, you are still welcome but sack lunches cost $3.) Just show up to a participating site between the designated times! LONG BEACH The annual SandSations sand sculptor contest is coming July 25 through July 29. Professional sand sculptors will build in downtown Long Beach for three days, followed by the traditional contest on the Bolstad beach approach on Saturday. There will be free sand castle building lessons on Friday and Saturday, plus the always fun Sand Flea Pet Parade.

ILWACO Olde Towne Trading Post, the coffee shop across from the heritage museum in Ilwaco, hosts a monthly Authors Showcase the fourth Wednesday evening of the month, with the next gathering set for July 25. Writers are encouraged to come share works in progress or published writings, and everyone is welcome to come hear these original stories. Finn Fest Golf Tourney
LONG BEACH In conjunction with the upcoming 16th Biennial Finnish-American Folk Festival in Naselle, a golf tournament is scheduled for Thursday, July 26 at the Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach. The event begins with a wonderful lunch at noon, prepared by Sondra and her crew, in the Cove Restaurant. ILWACO On Thursday, July 26, at 7 p.m., there will be a Greater Peninsula USBC General Membership meeting at Hilltop Bowl in Ilwaco. Managing chronic illnesses
ILWACO Teaching individuals to take charge and manage their chronic illnesses in partnership with their physicians is the focus of the upcoming workshops at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco. This series of classes will be held on Thursday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., through Aug. 16. Space is limited. Ocean Beach Hospital in collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) has scheduled a free workshop open to the public for six consecutive Thursdays, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Ocean Beach Hospital meeting room, 174 1st Avenue N., Ilwaco. Stanford Universitys Chronic Disease-Self Management Program developed all of the materials. Each participant will have access to a Living Well With Chronic Conditions book. The goal of the program is to help participants live a healthy life by managing symptoms. The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Rodeo time!
LONG BEACH The 67th NPRA rodeo is scheduled for July 27 through July 29 at the Peninsula Saddle Club grounds on Sandridge Road. The sounds of galloping horses and anxious steer, dusty air and numerous sightings of cowboy hats, jean short-shorts and weathered wranglers can only mean one thing: the rodeo is back in town. The festivities will kick-off with a rodeo parade through downtown Long Beach at 6:30 p.m., on Friday night, July 27. Start off each day of the rodeo right with a hearty, cattle ranch worthy meal at the Cowboy Breakfast, held at the clubhouse on the rodeo grounds Saturday and Sunday morning from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Peruse a variety of vendors and then take your seats for the rodeo events that start each day at 1 p.m. Lee Daggett will return as rodeo announcer. Come see some top-notch cowboys and cowgirls compete in the full range of events including, bareback, saddle bronc, breakaway roping, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and bull riding. Finnish-American Festival
NASELLE The bi-annual Finn-Fest is set for July 27 through July 29 at the school in Naselle. Come see folks in Scandinavian costumes, hear cultural music and historical presentations, enjoy the boot toss, wife carry, Maypole dance and more much. Plus there will a wonderful variety of foods, flower and even dance demonstrations.
Ilwaco Tuna Classic
ILWACO Two full days of fishing will be enjoyed during the annual Ilwaco Tuna Classic. Bigger and better than ever this year, the fishing will be held on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, with more festivities on Sunday, July 29 at the Port of Ilwaco. The Ilwaco Tuna Classic fishing begins on Friday and continues through Saturday. Sunday will feature a wrap-up event with official weigh-in, vendor booths, huge barbecue, raffle, auction and final results announced. There will also be a scavenger hunt on Saturday for those not fishing, so bring your family. You are invited to join the cause by participating in the Ilwaco Tuna Classic. Woodfest at the marina
TOKELAND The Tokeland-North Cove Chamber of Commerce is happy to host the fifth annual Woodfest at the Marina in Tokeland on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday July 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. There will be live music, chainsaw carvers, food booths and, a first this year, a beer garden. All things wooden with other artist and crafters participating will be available. Waikiki Beach concert
ILWACO At 7 p.m., on July 28, the public is invited to Cape Disappointment State Parks Waikiki Beach for a concert by the band The Holiday Friends. This group features local talent playing great rock music. Bring a lawn chair and other personal comforts and sit back and enjoy some great music at this free outdoor concert. PAPA presents Into The Woods
CHINOOK Peninsula Association of Performing Artists (PAPA) continues performances of the musical Into the Woods at Fort Columbia Theater through Aug. 5. Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. Because of an agreement with the Washington State Parks, no Discover Pass is required to attend the show. Ticket prices are $17 for adults and $5 for children 15 and under. The characters will leave you laughing out loud, fighting back tears and, quite possibly transformed by the experience of attending this wonderful, whimsical musical! CERT training
LONG BEACH The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency is hosting a 10-week training course for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This free training runs every Tuesday through Aug. 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pacific County Administration Building on Sandridge Road in Long Beach. Participants are not required to attend all courses, though complete attendance is required to graduate from the program. Courses include: disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster triage, disaster medical, victim search, rescue organizations, team organization, disaster psychology and animal rescue. Race Against Violence
LONG BEACH The third annual Race Against Violence is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. Created as way to honor Lisa Bonney, the 5K run/walk is held to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence support, resources and prevention education materials. Entry fees are $22 to receive an event T-shirt ($27 after the July 22 deadline), and $12 without the T-shirt ($17 after July 22). LONG BEACH The Ilwaco High School graduating class of 1962 is holding their 50th reunion on beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Cove Restaurant at the Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach. The cost is $32 per person, which includes the rent of the restaurant which will be closed to the public during the event; appetizers, dinner and dessert, tax and tip. Slow-Pitch ball
SOUTH BEND Softball teams are invited to play in a slow-pitch, wood bat softball tournament on Labor Day weekend. From Aug. 31 through Sept. 2, South Bend will host Wood on the Willapa, an eight-team tournament to benefit Willapa Harbor Helping Hands and the Labor Day fireworks fund. Entry is $225 per team (13-player limit). Teams will play at the South Bend Community Park.
