Spring Term at CCC

Kindergarten Pre-Registration
PENINSULA Kindergarten pre-registration is open for all Peninsula children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31. Parents or guardians may pre-register your child at Ocean Park Elementary School or at Long Beach Elementary anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., during the month of March. Cranberry Road is the dividing line; children living north of Cranberry will attend Ocean Park School, and those south of Cranberry will attend Long Beach Elementary. A childs birth certificate and immunization record (copies or originals) are required but the child does not need to be at pre-registration. Line dancing
LONG BEACH Line dancing on the Peninsula is offered at Long Beach Grange at 5715 Sandridge Road. Dancing for beginners is at 5 p.m. intermediate dancing starts at 6 p.m.; and couples hit the floor at 7 p.m. each Thursday, except the fourth Thursday of the month. ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics Cancer Support Group will meet Friday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in the Ilwaco Community Building meeting room. The support group is part of the hospitals oncology outreach and education program. Cyndy Soule, a member of the hospitals chemotherapy team, will facilitate the meeting. Fundraiser car wash
LONG BEACH As part of his senior project, Michael Weatherby and the fire cadets are holding a car wash on March 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the parking lot of the Bank of the Pacific to raise funds for a roof training prop for Pacific County Fire District No. 1. Approximately $3,800 is needed to build this needed training tool. Donations are welcome. Call 244-3248 if you have questions or to make a donation.
Rummage/Bake Sale
BAY CENTER There will be a rummage and bake sale on March 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Bay Center Store, located approximately one mile off Highway 101. This event is a fundraiser for the local food bank. So everyone is encouraged to show up and support this great event and get some good deals in the process.
Dinner and Concert
LONG BEACH The Long Beach Grange is hosting a community dinner and concert featuring the Ilwaco High School Symphonic Band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday, March 24. Dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m., with a choice of barbecue beef or French dip sandwiches and side dishes for $7. Empty Bowls project
SEAVIEW Mark your calendar now, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on March 24, everyone is invited to the fourth annual Empty Bowls Project at the Peninsula Church Center, 5000 N Place in Seaview. For $10 you get a handmade bowl, full of soup, with bread. This is a fundraiser to end hunger, one bowl at a time.
Walk For Diabetes!
LONG BEACH As the senior project of Justice Schenk, on Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Bolstad beach approach, all are encouraged to participate in the diabetes information walk. ILWACO Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula is holding their fundraiser, Oysters and Art, on March 24, at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. This event benefits Peninsula-wide childrens programs such as the Boys and Girls Club, Camp Victory, Peninsula Arts Association Scholarship, Childrens Dentistry, and a local Rotary scholarship. Plus a portion of the proceeds is earmarked for the Childrens Literacy Project. Plump, juicy oysters served on the half shell, steamed, or prepared in other delicious manners share center stage with beautiful art works donated by local and almost-local artists and artisans. Ten pieces will be set aside for the live auction, always a thrilling event, and auctioneer Dwayne Smallwood knows how to get the bidders bidding! The silent auction fills several tables with wonderful creations from hand thrown pottery to original paintings to concert tickets. This event is reserved seating only and you can purchase tickets online at http://beachrotary.org/blog/service-projects/oysters-art. Tickets are just $30 and entitle you to cruise the oyster bar, enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne, and sample light bites from local restaurants. A cash bar will be available. Doors open at 5 p.m., and dress this year is beach casual. So, find that Hawaiian shirt, your shorts, sunglasses and flip-flops. Check your surfboard at the door and have a ball. Southwest Pacific County Peninsula Rotary Foundation is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization.
Clamming
PENINSULA Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the next clam dig for morning tides on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25. No digging will be allowed on any beach after noon.
The Good Doctor
RAYMOND The Good Doctor, by Neil Simon, the latest production by the Willapa Players, continues for two more weekends. This Broadway hit is based on short stories by famed Russian writer Anton Chekhov. A repertory group of 11 actors Williams, Bob Stalder, Scott Cowell, Dani Massin, LaRayne Watts, Curt Harris, Liz McCollum, Christine Kardos, Jim Watts, Jenny Allan and Heidi Stonebraker portray 22 different roles in eight vignettes, each based on a different Chekhov short story. Performances will be on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, with a Sunday matinee on March 25, and final performances Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31. Tickets for those shows are $10 and are available at South Bend Pharmacy and Everyones Video and More in Raymond.

OCEAN PARK and SEAVIEW Alcoholics Anonymous has two group meetings on the Peninsula. The Ocean Park group meets at 7:30 p.m., at the Ocean Park Methodist Church at 1202 262nd Place on Mondays and Fridays. PENINSULA The Ilwaco High School class of 2012 is now selling flower bowls and baskets. Prices for hanging baskets are $28 each or two or more $25 each; 14-inch flower bowls are $20 each or $18 for two or more bowls. All proceeds benefit the Class of 2012 Substance Free Grad Party. Whales!
ASTORIA Come learn about whales. This hands-on day camp will be whale themed science and art education for children between the ages of 8 and 12. The camp will run Monday, March 26 through Thursday, March 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the 4-H Club House. The participants will have hands-on activities that include real whalebones. They will focus on scientific understanding of whales, the oceanic environment and some of the other animals students might see in the ocean. Topics include: What are whales? How are whales adapted to the ocean environment? What do they eat, and what challenges do they face? The participants will be investigating, sketching, and writing. LONG BEACH There will be a Conservative Conversations Potluck beginning at 6 p.m., March 26, at the Long Beach Grange on Sandridge Road. OCEAN PARK Its time for the Ocean Park Elementary Scholastic Book Fair, set for March 26 through March 30. This event raises funds to purchase books for the school library. Monday, March 26, is a viewing day, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then Tuesday, March 27 through Thursday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., its time to purchase your great finds. The hours on Friday, the final day, are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents, children, teachers and community members are invited to attend.

LONG BEACH Each Monday at 6:30 p.m., the public is invited to come play bunco, a fundraiser for the Long Beach Elks sponsored Food4Kids Program. Everyone is welcome, with proceeds going to help purchase food for a backpack of healthy food and snacks to get local needy kids through the weekend.

OCEAN PARK Seniors and low-income taxpayers can get free help with their 2011 Federal income taxes at the Ocean Park Timberland Library on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 11. No appointment is needed this is a sign in and wait your turn service. Please bring all current tax records (including all amounts of rebates/credits received in 2011), plus a copy of all 2010 tax records/return. ILWACO On March 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Olde Towne Trading Post in Ilwaco hosts a gathering of writers and listeners. Everyone is welcome to come share and hear original stories and poems in progress, or perhaps even some previously published. The theme of this months meeting is, Spring has Sprung. Into The Woods
ILWACO The Peninsula Association of Performing Artists (PAPA) is performing the musical, Into the Woods, with the cooperation of the Washington State Parks Department. The musical will be performed at Fort Columbia Theater this summer. Auditions for Into the Woods will be held at the Inn at Harbor Village on Friday, March 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If necessary, arrangements can be made for other audition times by contacting Cindy Flood at 665-3637. If you are interested in helping with the production in any other way, from costuming and make-up to staging and lighting, please come to the auditions to complete the application form. Based on Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, Into the Woods brings together an original story involving a baker and his wife, and their desire to start a family. Into the Woods also includes references to several other well-known fairy tales, and it is filled with fast moving music and comedy.

Thrift Store grand opening
LONG BEACH ReachOut Thrift Store is moving to their new location at 1003 N. Pacific Highway (in the old Pro Video space next to the Thai restaurant). They are holding a grand opening on March 30 and March 31 and April 2. The public is invited to come check out this new larger location.

Kids Stuff Sale
LONG BEACH From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, March 31 come to the Long Beach Grange at 5715 Sandridge Road for a special sale of kids stuff. Open to the public, attendees are welcome to come and sell your childrens items they no longer need or use, including clothing, toys, furnishings, books, etc. Sale items must be limited to childrens items, no household garage sale items. The cost of table rental is $10 per 8-foot table. All of the proceeds from the table rentals will go towards sponsoring local kids to attend summer camp at Camp Morehead in Nahcotta. Lunch will be available in the onsite kitchen so invite your friends for the biggest kids only garage sale on the Peninsula. This event will take place quarterly at the Grange. SOUTH BEND The Pacific Transit Authority Board will hold its regular quarterly meeting on Thursday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m., at the Pacific County Commissioners meeting room at 1216 W. Robert Bush Drive, South Bend. The public is invited to come and be heard.
