NASELLE The owner of Bapies Cafe in Naselle arrived for work Thursday morning only to find a burglary in progress. When the suspect, who had already removed the safe from the business, fled the scene he lost one of his shoes as he was pursued by a Pacific County Sheriff’s deputy who arrived on scene at about 5 a.m.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, wearing a grey jacket over a darker hooded sweatshirt. The theft of a first aid kit from the cafe and other evidence at the scene indicates the suspect may have been cut or injured during the burglary. He was last seen near the Naselle Youth Camp at about 12:30 p.m.

While the Naselle High School remained in lockdown at 2:30 p.m., the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Washington State Patrol, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, a Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, and a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter continues the hunt for the burglary suspect in the Naselle area.
