ILWACO Lorraine Unruh was the guest of honor at a luncheon held at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum (CPHM) Sept. 27 as the archive facility was officially named after her. Unruh volunteered at the museum for many years and also generously donated to CPHM.
In January 2008 the National Heritage Preservation Conservation Assessment team recommended that CPHMs archive functions be moved from the second floor of the museum to the Michael N. Kabush Collections Building. In 2009 CPHM received a Washington State Heritage Capital Projects grant to acquire mobile compact storage units for the archive room.
Grants from the Corder, Templin and Zahl foundations along with many donations from Unruh and others, helped create the new archive space. The changes will aid in research services CPHM provides by having all of the archival collections in one location.
Unruh helped in the archive section, with textile collections, and with special events during her years of service at what was formerly the Ilwaco Heritage Museum. The Noreen Robinson Research Room is also available for use at CPHM. For more information call 642-3446 or email collections@cphm-ilwaco.org.
Among the archives available are albums, books, tapes, fire insurance maps, glass plate negatives, microfilm, nautical charts, newspapers, oral histories, periodicals, photographs, posters, records, scrapbooks, and slides.
