PACIFIC OCEAN The U.S. Coast Guard assisted a fishing vessel disabled by an engine room fire off Grays Harbor on Tuesday.

    Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a call from the crew of the 62-foot stern trawler June Rose at approximately 7:25 p.m., Monday, stating they had put out a fire in the engine room. The vessel was left disabled 20 miles west of Grays Harbor with three people on board.

    Coast Guard Cutter Alert, homeported in Astoria, was in the vicinity of the June Rose and deployed a rescue and assistance team. The rescue and assistance team from cutter Alert repaired the engines aboard the June Rose at about 1:15 a.m., Tuesday, allowing the fishing vessel to recover its nets and make way.

    Cutter Alert escorted the June Rose to the Columbia River entrance where a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Cape Disappointment took over the escort.

    The 47-foot motor lifeboat crew escorted the June Rose across the Columbia River Bar and safely into the Port of Ilwaco at about 9:30 a.m., Tuesday.

    No injuries were reported.
