Mystery dinner theater returns to Ocean Park

OCEAN PARK July 27, 28 and 29 are the dates for a Mystery Dinner Theater at Ocean Park Lutheran Church. This years mystery, A Plot of Murder, is a story of a fictional community much like Surfside Estates and their neighborhood meeting. The characters range from a gardener to a lawyer. They go through some of the problems of any neighborhood meeting. Some of their concerns include the length of lawns, Bubbas bass boat, a bicycle path, and many others.

The night of mystery starts at 6 p.m., with the folks at each table in the audience trying to decide who will be murdered and who will be hauled away in handcuffs. Between courses, another portion of the mystery is presented. As the plot thickens, each tables choice of the murderer may change, or they may stay with their original prediction.

During each course the characters from the mystery sit and eat with the audience and can answer questions that may help the table decide if their predictions are correct. During the night, the audience can become the victim or the perpetrator. Finally at the end of the evening, the whole plot is revealed. Those tables that are correct will get an extra reward.

Chef Curt Davis will again be responsible for the dinner. His wife, Kathleen, will supervise the servers for the evening. This year the menu includes summer slaw, magnolia pork, a vegetable medley and New York cheesecake. The dinner is included in the price of the ticket. Mary Ellen Langridge is in charge of the decorations; this year it will be a garden setting.

This is the seventh mystery dinner that has been held for community outreach purposes. This year, a portion of the profits will be going to an active organization called Rebuilding Together. This organization helps the elderly and disabled with jobs around the house that they can no longer afford or do themselves.

Tickets must be reserved in advance by either calling the Ocean Park Lutheran Church office at 665-6344 or by visiting the church office at 24002 U Street in Ocean Park, Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and noon. Tickets are $150 for a table of six directly in front of the action, or $20 for general admission on a first come, first seated basis.
