- Railroad Days
PENINSULA This years Clamshell Railroad Days at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum was another great success with a large crowd of visitors last Saturday and slightly smaller crowd on Sunday.
The main hall was filled with model train exhibits in a variety of gauges and local historian Harry Bell gave a slideshow presentation on the Ilwaco Rail & Navigation Company.
Kids had a lot to see and do at the annual Railroad Days, a favo-rite being the Kids Craft Corner where they could paint their very own train car to take home. Kids and adults alike also enjoyed being able to go inside the museums Pullman passenger car, Nahcotta, that ran along the Peninsula, which is only opened once or twice a year.
The Portland Cascade Z-scale diorama again wowed visitors with its intricate details of imperiled kayakers, lonely cows and rock climbers. The Mount Rainier N-scale club also returned to the event with their 34-foot-long diorama. Their exhibit displayed a variety of landscapes and of course, a to-scale Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
