Tell us what services you provide.
Woody Pierson, Jr.: We provide a wide variety of services, much more than just septics, you know land clearing, road building, demolition, and site prep, rock hauling, all of that.
How did you get started in this field?
I got started because my dad started this when I was young. I was 10 or 11 years old when he started doing this; I grew up doing this with him. In 88, I graduated from Ilwaco and went to fulltime employment with him until 2001, when I decided to take on new challenges and he wanted to do less, and we split. Which isnt a bad thing at all.
I see in your ad that you conduct property and soil evaluations. Who might need those services from you?
What that would be is anybody that comes to the Peninsula and is interested in purchasing land, we recommend they contact us before purchasing the land. Ill meet them on-site and give them an honest opinion on what its going to cost, what its going to take to get power on this lot and what its going to take to get septic on this lot in order to build their home.
What is your service area?
I do all of Pacific County and Wahkiakum County.
Whats the best maintenance tip or advice you give to your customers?
As far as septics are concerned, my advice would be to do maintenance on your septic at your convenience rather than at the septics convenience. Like your car, give it a tune-up once and a while so it doesnt break down on Fourth of July weekend. For those vacation homes that sit empty for several months, its always going to be when a big group is here on the weekend when your septic is going to break down. We have septic maintenance programs, where for the first two years we offer free maintenance with installation cost. Customers have an option to extend the maintenance program. We actually continually check your system on a regular basis. A majority of people want to flush the toilet and its done. With the maintenance program, one of the selling features is when we look at the system annually we can tell them when the tank needs to be pumped. We dont do pumping, thats something Ive just never gotten into. You know some people will think, Its been four years and its time to get the septic pumped, and they spend $400 or $500 to have it pumped when that couldve just been spent on maintenance.
Woodys Septic Specialties also offers permit assistance, manufactured home installation, and dirt, sand, and gravel delivery. Estimates are free and senior discounts are available.
