Peninsula Model RR Club celebrates 10th Train Days July 16-17

LONG BEACH The Peninsula Model Railroad Club (PMRC) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Train Days. The club is hosting a huge model railroad show and swap meet at the Long Beach Grange Hall on Sandridge Road on Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the two-day event is $5 and kids under 12 get in free.
Many visiting clubs from as far away as Seattle will set up their train layouts with operating model trains. A Thomas the Train layout will be available for children to operate. There will be an antique Lionel toy train layout among the many other displays on both floors of the spacious Grange Hall.
Norman Sims, a highly acclaimed lecturer on local railroads, will give free daily lectures. Door prizes will be awarded (you dont have to be present to win). PMRC will be displaying the model of Tinkers Hotel featured in a recent Chinook Observer article and other items related to PMRCs efforts in building modules representing the IR&N that ran on the Peninsula.
Snacks and beverages will be available. On Saturday at 6 p.m. a 10th Anniversary tri-tip dinner with all the fixings will be served by the Grange with attendees, visiting club members, and the public invited. The price is $10 per person.
PMRC is also sponsoring a sidewalk art contest at the gazebo in downtown Long Beach on Friday, July 15 at 1 p.m. The theme will be railroad-related with a train set being awarded to the winner. The Cranberry Queens, the local Red Hats, will have a tea at the historic Long Beach Ilwaco Railway and Navigation Company depot located just north of Dennis Company with local gifts and items for sale both Saturday and Sunday. There will be a clown for the kids entertainment.
On Saturday at 11:30 a.m. the Bayside Singers will give a special performance at the depot in Long Beach.
