Lyrica Ladies to Sing in Oysterville
Published 5:00 pm Monday, July 11, 2011
The Lyrica Ladies Choral Ensemble of Puget Sound will sing at the Oysterville Music Vespers service Sunday, July 17, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pastor David George of Ilwacos New Life Church will officiate as guest minister.
According to Lyricas director, LeeAnne Campos, the group has been together for 10 years and has performed in Oysterville seven or eight times.
Based in Tacoma, the groups connection to the Peninsula can be traced back to LeeAnnes student days at Pacific Lutheran University when she studied voice with local pianist/composer Barbara Poulshock, who was then part of the voice faculty at PLU.
Originally, LeeAnne founded Lyrica with the intent of providing a one-time only opportunity for women who love to sing. They are now 30 voices strong and have performed throughout the Pacific Northwest. Their Oysterville performance has become a traditional part of an annual concert tour and retreat.
The program Sunday will include popular works by Claude Debussy, Paul Simon and Moses Hogan. Their repertoire includes both secular and sacred songs, madrigals, spirituals, standards and selections from musical theatre.
Rounding out Sundays service will be congregational hymn singing accompanied by Sandra Nielsen on the 1930 vintage pump organ and an Oysterville Moment by village resident Diane Buttrell.
The ecumenical worship service is open to visitors and community members alike. A collection basket is passed and proceeds are used for the day-to-day maintenance of the Historic Oysterville Church. All are invited to come as you are!
