Letter: Nan Malin speaks up about recent letters

Some corrections to recent letters about me should be made. First to Les:

1. I dont get those checks you seem to think my organization gets. My state chapter donations come directly from hard working grassroots activists. However, I would like to know where your outrage is toward the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and various other Dem candidates who received large checks (that I didnt get) in 2010 from the Koch PAC? Patty Murray recently left a voice message for Koch Industries referring to a swanky retreat for donors and asking for more money.

2. I dont agree with everything my husband writes and he has long been famous locally for those global warming rants. It has nothing to do with me serving Kool-Aid or my new job.

To Bob:

1. I feel kind of upset about you making fun of my daughters names, calling them hippie lexicon. My mother died when I was 10 yrs old and I was honored to give my daughter her grandmothers Scandinavian name. Are you making fun of Finns and Swedes? That daughter has only shown gracious friendship to your own immigrated stepdaughters. My adopted (Bretts youngest) daughter was named by her deceased biological mother for her grandmother, too.

2. I take exception to your claim that I said that my politics changed when I made a little money. I did say that once I became a business owner it made me start thinking differently about excessive taxes and government regulations. The responsibilities of owning a business are what started me on the path of getting involved in politics.

3. Are you assuming that I am greedy and selfish because I am conservative in politics? Or, because with my small disposable income, I used to enjoy eating in your restaurant?

4. As far as your statement that I have betrayed and forgotten my ideals and principles, well, that is hurtful and untruthful. My ideals and principles live fully because I embrace diversity, work hard to better our community, to make our earth a sustainable planet, to change economic policies toward sound business principles, to change the political system and I never make unfounded personal attacks against my neighbors and friends.

Continued from A4

But what is important here is that Les and Bobs ideology only works when you dismiss people like me as being greedy and selfish. It is my belief that we can find common ground among everyone in our community and not resort to such polarizing political attacks. We must work together to solve the problems that face us. I understand that some people feel that I am a public target for biased attacks. Redheads get this. I dont look like your average conservative. I dont fit into that box you keep trying to shove me into. Its time to set aside such divisive discourse.
