Letter: Issue wolf tags to hunters and keep elk numbers up

Ron Malasts article on the growing wolf populations in the Western states is another example of how out of whack things can get when humans think they have a better idea on how to try and control the natural world in order to fit their own agendas. Not!

The environmental idiots have done it again. First the loggers with the spotted owl, next the fishermen and the sea lions, and now the ranchers, farmers, and hunters with the wolves.

Is anyone starting to see a trend forming here? My solution to the wolf problem is simple. Issue tags to hunters like the states do for bear and cougar. Or let them hunt them year-round like you can coyotes.

If the wolves kill off enough elk and deer, it will be costing the states millions of dollars in lost revenue each year in license and permit fees, not to mention untold millions that fishermen and hunters spend in local businesses. You just might as well store all your tackle and guns in the closet, boys. No use in trying to sell everything because there wont be any buyers. And, the states can also dissolve all departments of fish, game and all wildlife. There will be nothing left to manage. This will make the less government folks happy no doubt.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation can rename itself The Keepers of the Sacred Wolf Clan and become advocates for photography and wolf viewing tours. Lets all of us who love the outdoors, however, choose to enjoy its beauty and bounty get behind the HR509 bill and S249. Both of these are a long overdue step in the right direction.
