Chronic conditions

ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital, in collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging, has scheduled a free workshop open to the public, Living Well With Chronic Conditions, to be held on Thursdays, for six consecutive weeks, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, July 7, at the Ocean Beach Hospital Meeting Room, 174 1st Avenue N., Ilwaco. The workshop will be taught by two trained leaders. All of the materials individuals will be using were developed by Stanford Universitys Chronic Disease-Self Management Program. This program is designed to help individuals who suffer from a chronic condition, including diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis, and hypertension just to name a few, to lessen their stress and frustration, manage symptoms, and deal with fatigue. Aging Agency meeting

PORT HADLOCK The Olympic Area Agency on Aging council of government meets via conference call at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 7. On the agenda are the renewal of in-home care contracts and the appointment of a regional minority representative. Slumber camp

ILWACO The Clatsop County Extension office s holding a 4-H summer slumber camp from 6 p.m., Thursday, July 7 through 9 a.m., Saturday, July 9 at Cape Disappointment Stat Park. Students in grade fourth through seventh grades are invited to participate. The cost is $55, which includes a T-shirt. You do not need to be a 4-H member to attend. Free Admission

ILWACO Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco and the Appelo Archive Center in Naselle are two of more than 1,300 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer until Labor Day. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to    4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays are admission free thanks to support from the Port of Ilwaco. Camp Victory

SEAVIEW Camp Victory is an annual camp for girls ages 5 to 17 that are from Pacific and Grays Harbor counties and are survivors of sexual assault. Camp Victory is looking for volunteers who would be willing to share time before, during, and after camp (or all of the above). Team Building Seminar

SEAVIEW Bret Loucks, Kolbe Master Consultant, will lead an exploration into the reasons why smart, dedicated teams often struggle to get things done. This seminar, set for Saturday, July 9, will begin with describing how each of us is wired to take action in unique and powerful ways. Archery meeting

Low Tide Drifters

ILWACO The Low Tide Drifters perform at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 9 as part of the summer concert series at Waikiki beach in Cape Disappointment State Park. Their original roots-based songs are said to reflect the experiences and struggles of everyday working people.

Cribbage

Orchid Society meeting

ASTORIA The Sunset Empire Orchid Society meets at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 10, at the First Lutheran Church at 725 33rd Street in Astoria. OCEAN PARK and SEAVIEW Alcoholics Anonymous has two group meetings on the Peninsula. The Ocean Park group meets at 7:30 p.m., at the Ocean Park Methodist Church at 1202 262nd Place on Mondays and Fridays. AARP picnic

KLIPSAN AARP Chapter No. 1555 will hold their annual picnic starting at noon on July 11 at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center. There will be a white elephant auction following the picnic. Large Animal Care

Art Night at the Marina

ILWACO Come to the Port of Ilwaco on Saturday, July 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., for an art night at the marina. Make an evening of it, stroll the waterfront, have a bite, some refreshments and some fun. More than 15 Ilwaco businesses open their doors and welcome friends, neighbors and visitors and the evening features two raffles with free gifts from participating shops and restaurants.

Camp Kiwanilong 

WARRENTON Camp Kiwangilong is celebrating 75 years of existence, and is holding a dinner, silent auction and more to raise money to make some needed repairs. On July 16, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., enjoy wine, a walk and a tour of the facility; from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., you can enjoy an Italian dinner for a suggested donation of $15. Weavers and spinners

SKAMOKAWA Opening July 16 at noon, Redmen Hall will feature an exhibit of work by the Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild. There will be a reception with demonstrations by both the weavers and the spinners from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. that afternoon. This is a talented group of artists from Astoria and the Long Beach Peninsula. Their focus this year is an interesting one using recycled materials in spinning and weaving hence the title Fiber Arts Go Green. They are presenting and selling work done using recycled material and their regular hand spun and hand woven items. The exhibit runs until Aug. 28. Redmen Hall is located in Skamokawa on SR4 (Ocean Beach Highway) and is open from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. For more information you can call 360-795-3007 during business hours.

ILWACO Clamshell Railroad Days are coming to Ilwaco on July 16 and July 17 at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum on Lake Street. 

Summer lunch program

PENINSULA There will be a summer lunch program available for all youth up to age 18 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at six sites around our community, from July 19 through Sept. 2. They are as follows: Skating Lake Park in Surfside, Ocean Park Elementary, Culbertson Park in Long Beach, Peninsula Church Center in Seaview, at the Ilwaco Library and in Chinook at a site yet to be determined. Hunter education course

LONG BEACH Sign up now for the Long Beach Police Departments annual hunter education course set for Aug. 1 through Aug. 6. Class size is limited and you must pre-register to attend. Summer Art Festival

ILWACO Peninsula Arts Associations 3rd Summer Art Festival, set for July 22 through 24, has moved to the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum at 115 Lake Street in Ilwaco. Hours are Friday from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to    4 p.m., and Sunday from noon to        3 p.m. The new venue provides opportunity for the 20-plus artists to spread out and really show off their handcrafted work in the very best way possible. Jewelry, paintings, paper crafts, wind chimes, wood carvings, silver work, glass, clay, yard art, photography, art cards and hand spun warm and fuzzies are just some of the treasures to be found at this growing festival. This years Garlic Festival poster will also be on sale along with snacks and nibbles (with proceeds benefiting PAAs scholarship program). Admission is free. For more information call 777-8778.

Rodeo

LONG BEACH Peninsula Saddle Club and Brims Farm and Garden are sponsoring the 66th Long Beach Rodeo on July 30 and July 31 at the rodeo grounds located at 6407 Sandridge Road. Each day starts with a cowboy breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the cowboy action starting at 1 p.m. There will be fun events for all ages, including a rodeo parade through downtown Long Beach at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 29. Presale tickets are available at any Peninsula Pharmacy for $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors and $4.50 for children ages 6 to 12. 

IHS Alumni gathering

ILWACO The Ilwaco High School Association hosts the 19th annual all-school get together for alumni on Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spouses, family and friends are welcome to gather on the football practice field.
