SEAVIEW The Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau is look for people who want to have fun and meet interesting people and who are willing to volunteer one-half day (four hours) per week at their front counter to provide information to visitors. PENINSULA The community is encouraged to wear their favorite shade of purple on Friday, June 24 in support of Relay for Life of the Long Beach Peninsula, which will be held at the Ilwaco track from 7 p.m., June 24 to 1 p.m., June 25. Purple and white are the official colors for the Relay for Life, an 18-hour event to raise funds for cancer awareness, education and research and finding a cure. American Legion Auxiliary Poppies
PENINSULA Members of the Don R. Grable Unit No. 48 of the American Legion Auxiliary are offering memorial poppies on the Peninsula from June 24 to July 4. Donations are welcome, and all money collected will be used to help veterans and their families. Watch for American Legion and Auxiliary members, be generous with your donation and wear a poppy with pride, especially on the Fourth of July weekend. There is no better way to say thank you to a veteran than to wear a poppy as a reminder that we will always remember.

PENINSULA Work by Peninsula Arts Association spring art show winners is on display this month. The first and second place winning painters art pieces are being shown at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco. Also Bernie Elliott has art on display at the county building on Sandridge Road and Sharon Bernasek and Vivian Easter are showing some of their paintings at the Ilwaco library.

ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics Cancer Support Group meet Friday, June 24, at 2 p.m. in the Ilwaco Community Building meeting room. The support group is part of the hospitals oncology outreach and education program. Cyndy Soule and Jami Greenfield, members of the hospitals chemotherapy team, will facilitate the meeting. Field Day Communications event
NAHCOTTA For the 10th year, Pacific County Amateur Radio Club will participate in the annual North American Field Day operating event the weekend of June 25, at the Port of Peninsula and Morehead Park in Nahcotta. This waterfront area has proven to be an excellent site for radio transmissions. Pacific County Amateur Radio Club will have five operating radio stations: a Get on the Air station open to the public; a single side band voice station; a Morse Code station; a packet (digital) station; and a VHF station, demonstrating a wide range of capabilities. The VHF station will make one or more contacts via amateur radio satellite, for example. Friday is dedicated to setting up the stations and antennas, including making test contacts to prove the viability of each set-up. The public is invited to observe amateur radio at work and learn how to make contact with other radio stations in North America. One station is dedicated for use by the public and for amateurs who do not typically operate on the short-wave bands. The best time to visit operations is Saturday midday through late afternoon. Stop by the Get on the Air tent to learn first-hand about radio operations, pick up a brochure, take a tour, or to ask questions about becoming a licensed radio amateur. Participate at the VHF station by sending an email via radio to a friend or family member. Music in the Gardens
PENINSULA Check out the beautiful gardens on the Peninsula on Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This tour showcases seven distinct gardens and will feature recorded music by Water Music Festival performers as well as live music in some of the gardens. This is a fundraiser for the festival. Tickets are $15 and will be available at Adelaides Books and Coffee, the Basket Case Greenhouse and The English Nursery. A map and information on the gardens will be included with the ticket.
Gallery talk
ILWACO Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum hosts noted historian David Hansen, who will give a gallery talk entitled, Remembering My Grandmother Maude Kimball Butler beginning at 2 p.m., June 25. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays are admission-free thanks to support from the Port of Ilwaco. One-Act Festival
ILWACO On June 27 and June 28 at 7 p.m., Peninsula Players will hold auditions for their annual One-Act Festival to be held in mid-August. NPIA annual meeting
OCEAN PARK North Peninsula Improvement Association (NPIA) holds their annual meeting at 6 p.m., on June 27 at Ocean Park fire hall. The purpose of this meeting is to elect a board of directors and officers. Members must have their annual dues of $10 paid in order to vote. Membership is open to owners of property located north of Cranberry Road. NPIA is a non-profit corporation, which has initiated community improvements, and projects including include flood control, junk car removal, illegally stored RVs and trailer removal, the North Beach Water District and the Beach to Bay Trail. A current project is working toward placing benches along the Beach to Bay Trail. The public is welcome to our meetings as input is necessary for continuing improvements in our community. Slumber camp
ILWACO The Clatsop County Extension office s holding a 4-H summer slumber camp from 6 p.m., Thursday, July 7 through 9 a.m., Saturday, July 9 at Cape Disappointment Stat Park. Students in grade fourth through seventh grades are invited to participate. The deadline to register is June 30, and the cost is $55, which includes a T-shirt. FRANCES The Lewis-Pacific Swiss Society Schwingfest will be held Friday July 1, Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3 at Swiss Park in Frances. Fun and entertainment featuring Swiss wrestling and live Swiss music will be held throughout the weekend. Steel Rails and Roses, playing country, American and country gospel music, featuring musicians Carl Wirkkala, Josh Gibson, Shannon Dell and Sherelen Wildhaber will present a concert on Friday, July 1 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the 48th Annual Schwingfest. These four musicians have joined their amazing talent together, blending their voices in great harmony to give you a sound you wont soon forget. Their music will leave you wanting more as they bring you more than just entertainment in their performances. Event passes are available for $25 for adults, $13 for ages 12 to 17. Symphonic concert & more
ASTORIA The North Coast Symphonic Band will present a free concert of patriotic and familiar music at 7 p.m., on Sunday, July 3, at the Liberty Theater in downtown Astoria. Larry Johnson will conduct. The featured work for the evening is Astoria by Dr. Kevin Walczyk. The North Coast Symphonic Band commissioned this work in honor of Astorias Bicentennial and this performance will be its premiere. Also featured on the July program will be Miss Macie and Lascivious Vivian from Shanghaied in Astoria. These tunes have been arranged by Dave Robertson especially for the North Coast Symphonic Band and vocalist ChrisLynn Taylor of the Shanghaied cast. Lauren Brady will perform Fantasy on When Johnny Comes Marching Home for solo piccolo and band. Chantelle Krause, a student at Astoria High School, will sing the Star Spangled Banner, and Bob Walters, music teacher in the Ocean Beach School District, will be the master of ceremonies and sing a medley of patriotic tunes. Members of Clatsop Post No. 12 of the American Legion will present the colors and the service flags as a tribute to veterans. There will be numerous other special pieces to celebrate our national holiday. ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital, in collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging, has scheduled a free workshop open to the public, Living Well With Chronic Conditions, to be held one day a week, on Thursdays, for six consecutive weeks, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday July 7, at the Ocean Beach Hospital Meeting Room, 174 1st Avenue N., Ilwaco. The workshop will be taught by two trained leaders. All of the materials individuals will be using were developed by Stanford Universitys Chronic Disease-Self Management Program. This program is designed to help individuals who suffer from a chronic condition, including diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis, and hypertension just to name a few; to lessen their stress and frustration, manage symptoms, and deal with fatigue.
