Letter: Rave reviews for Sound of Music
Published 5:00 pm Monday, May 23, 2011
I saw The Sound of Music this past weekend at Fort Columbia. What a delight! I never expected such professionalism and showmanship in a small community production. The children did a wonderful job and the captain was a star! His comedic timing and facial expressions provided some of the best moments in the show. And that doesnt even begin to get into his singing voice … commanding yet dreamy! All the performers did wonderfully and made for an excellent night out. I highly recommend you check out this show, and say hello to the captain for me!

After several months of a very intensive rehearsal schedule, the PAPA production of Sound of Music has not only begun, but has finished the first of four weekends full of performances. While I admit I didnt understand the intensity and frequency of rehearsals for a community theater production, I can honestly say I enjoy seeing the payoff!
I am so proud of the talented people in our community and the hard work and dedication they have put in to make this an absolutely amazing show. Some of these individuals are avid performers and as one of the kids told me is in pretty much everything that comes along and some, like my husband, who plays Capt. VonTrapp, have not done theater or even sang publicly (aside from karaoke) in decades. Regardless, this group meshes well together and compliment each other perfectly!
I am fortunate that Ive gotten to see bits of it unfold and thrilled that Ill get to see a majority of the performances, as it seems to get better with each showing. I highly encourage everyone to treat themselves to an amazing couple of hours full of entertainment! Congratulations to all cast, crew, music, sound, lights, costumes, sets and everyone else involved you have done an amazing job.

Last night I went to the opening of The Sound of Music, a PAPA production. What a wealth of talent in this community to create such a delightful evening of song, dance and drama. Do not miss it!
The von Trapp children stole the show every time they were on stage with their antics, their voices and their verve. The adults, from singing nuns to nasty Nazis, inhabited their roles with panache and purpose. Maria anchored the show with her darling demeanor, sweet voice and formidable talent.
These amazing talents rang the rafters of Fort Columbia with many favorite Hammerstein tunes, which I sang the whole way home in my car. Ive already purchased my tickets to see it again.
