Community Group to Hold Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in April
Published 5:00 pm Monday, April 4, 2011
PENINSULA Peninsula residents can join the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to be held on April 30 by bringing all expired, unused or unwanted medicine and prescription drugs to three locations to be disposed of properly.
This program is intended to remove potentially dangerous substances from your medicine cabinets and is free and anonymous, no questions will be asked.
Drop off locations are as follows:
Peninsula Senior Center located at 21603 O Lane, in Klipsan Beach, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Ocean Beach Hospital located at 174 First Avenue North in Ilwaco, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Timberland Library Naselle located at 4 Parpala Road, Naselle between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Last September, community volunteers collected nearly 60 pounds of unwanted prescription medications from over 22 households. The idea of the event is to prevent drug abuse by keeping these drugs out of the wrong hands and to discard them safely.
Prescription drug abuse is our nations fastest-growing drug problem and often times the source is right at home in the medicine cabinet. The easy availability and the misconception that they are safer than illicit drugs have led to an increase in prescription drug abuse.
