- OP students make solar car sprint
OCEAN PARK The fourth grade scientists of Ocean Park Elementary School raced their model solar cars in front of captive audiences during lunch recesses in the school gymnasium. The students have been building their cars with the help of Mr. Jim Dolan of the PUD. This activity culminated a study of magnets and electricity. The participating teams were Emily and Zoey of the Cheetahs, Jeb and Michael of the Blue Sun Devils, Reese and Jacob of the Red Sun Devils, Lightening Bolt Evan, Taylors The Littlest Pet Shop Racer, AJs Rhino and Alex and Elizabeths Zeus car. Every car contained a small motor and a solar panel. The students had to design and test their cars making necessary modifications in order to build the speediest car possible. The solar energy came in the form of strong lights held above the cars solar panels.

I think Zeus ran pretty good, but the rubber band wasnt tight enough, said Alex.
When me and Jacob were building our cars we had fun and hoped we were going to win some, said Reese.
