The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program says thank you for 2008-09 support
“It takes a village to raise a child.” This year people from the villages surrounding Naselle and Ocean Beach schools contributed heavily to the success of ECEAP Preschool programs in those communities. Contributions of time, materials, money, and professional expertise came from businesses and individuals. As a result of our many benefactors we have shared new books with children, purchased new equipment for classrooms, watched children be mesmerized by special presentations regarding animals, healthy foods, the best of children’s literature and watched others grow as they assisted our tiny learners.
The ECEAP program is grateful to everyone who supports our efforts to provide preschool at no charge to eligible families in our communities. We wish to publicly acknowledge the following businesses and individuals:

I am so delighted! We just completed the 28th Annual Northwest Garlic Festival and it was a huge success! The only reason it was such a success was because a group of volunteers stepped and made it so.
I must thank the following people who are saints: Karen and Curt Stephens, Veronica and Bob Frink, Amanda Frink, Bob and Judy Beezley, David Little, Bob and Mary Peterson, Jim and Alice McGlothin, Tarah O’Brien, Simone and the Lions Club, Linda Smith, Larry Cook, Dan Gove, Jim Meyers and Sandy, Larry and Sandy Canonica, Ann Powell and her husband, Larry Rucker, the Boy Scouts, Jim Haggard and, of course, my husband, Roger.
These wonderful people were on hand when we needed to raise the tents, lower the tents and run the parking lot and the information booth. Saturday was gangbusters with cars streaming onto the Beach Baron Field and the wonderful folks who took on the parking task did a heroic job! The Garlic Dudes were a highlight of our event again this year spreading smiles and cheer to all attendees. Thanks guys! I hope I have not missed anyone who gave of their time. We were able to use the stage from the Water Music Festival and this provided us with ongoing music without waiting for each band to break down and set up. Jack’s Country Store donated a $50 gas card for us to raffle off at the festival and it was a great success. The winner of the card is D. Williams from Portland.
A special thank you goes to the Boy Scouts and especially their parents! Jerry did such a great job in moving the boys along and they kept the field clean and the cans dumped.
It appeared holding it on Wilson Field was a good call and thanks to the Beach Barons for helping out and for letting us use the field. Everyone was very pleased. The vendors were especially happy to get away from the dust and (mud when it occasionally rains!). Thank you one and all for another great event. It’s time to start getting ready for next year!

For personal reasons, I have decided to end my employment at the Family Health Center. I will miss all of our patients who at the end of the day made me feel like I had made a difference in their lives. All of you will be greatly missed. I also want to say thank you to my co-workers who made it fun to go to work and see you every day.

Roasting nearly 400 bulbs of garlic does indeed make your eyes water, not to mention the smell! Question: how long will the house smell? No matter, we had great fun this past weekend participating at the Garlic Festival, raising funds for our local no-kill animal shelter. Tremendous support came from local businesses and master bakers who supplied wonderful breads: Bailey’s Bakery and Cafe, Cottage Bakery, 42nd Street Cafe, Jack’s Country Store, Jane Holeman, Okie’s Thriftway, Steven Linhart and Wholesome Hearth Bakery. This year’s Loyalty Day Junior Princesses, Mikayla Cheney, Emily McMillan, Hope Bellinger and Allison Bonney, did a wonderful job of raising awareness about our shelter to visitors while selling, too. Thanks to Mikayla’s mom (Nancy), Lannie and Jean Instenes, Lead to Results, Cutler Management and the Breakers, beachdog.com, board members Michelle Zinkevicz and Bonnie and Marv Carey for all their hard work. And finally, kudos to the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce and Roger and Phyllis Knight for putting on quite an event. Everyone had a lot of fun, including us!
