NASELLE – Warrenton Home Depot employees partnered with volunteers from the Naselle Fire Department and two local high schools Jan. 19 to 25 to help a couple of Naselle families with clean-up after recent floods. A total of 30 volunteers worked on the project.

First, Home Depot donated cleaning kits to the fire department to disperse among the residents in the effected areas. Naselle residents Johnny Engleson and Carol Haven helped gather the information needed to give out the cleaning kits and helped us identify the families in need.

Beth Johanson experienced floods reaching 48 inches deep inside the lower floor of her home. She was without hot water and had lots of debris to clean up after the storm. Home Depot helped her remove some debris and shelving that she could not do herself.

Shanna and Larry Pine had water over their entire yard and inside their home that damaged most of their flooring. Volunteers from Naselle High School, Ilwaco High School and The Home Depot in Warrenton Oregon stepped in to help with the cleanup. All of the storm debris was cleared from the exterior of the house and volunteers pressure washed and cleaned the exterior.

Inside the house, floor tiles in the kitchen and the laundry had pulled up, leaving a bare, uneven wood surface. Associates from the store worked together with volunteers from the high school to replace the sub-floor and install a new vinyl floor for the family.

Rob Dalton from Naselle High School organized the volunteers from the high school. The flooring expert from The Home Depot store guided the volunteers through the complicated installation.

The Home Depot store in Warrenton received a grant from the corporation for the project and the local high schools have programs for the students to participate.
