OCEAN PARK – Ocean Park resident David L. Thornton, 46, died at his residence of heart disease on Jan. 13, 2009. Born Dec. 31, 1962, in San Bernardino, Calif., he was the son of David and Aloma Thornton. As a child he loved to play baseball and spend time with his grandfather.
He lived in Vancouver prior to moving to the Peninsula 43 years ago. He was a graduate of Ilwaco High School. He was employed as a chef, cook and manager at BJ Squidley’s restaurant in Ocean Park and later at other local restaurants. His favorite place of employment was the Sea Mist Restaurant.
Mr. Thornton married Rhonda Smith on June 3, 1983, in Long Beach and they became the parents of three sons. He enjoyed playing darts in local leagues, was a rock collector and candle maker. His most enjoyable activity though was fishing with his children and grandchildren and being involved in family activities.
Besides his wife, survivors include his sons, Christopher Herman of Portland, Charles Smith of Ocean Park and Steven Thornton of Ocean Park; a brother, Danny Thornton of Riverside, Calif.; Virginia Sheldon of Ocean Park; and grandchildren, Paige Thornton and Domanic Smith. His family held a ceremony to honor his all too short life.
