Obituaries: Dorothy J. Williams

CALIFORNIA – Vallejo, Calif., resident Dorothy J. Williams, 83, died July 11, 2008. The daughter of Nels and Mathilde Jorgenson, she was born in Sioux City, Iowa on Nov. 11, 1924. She grew up in Sioux City where she graduated from Central High School.

Following high school she attended the University of South Dakota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in medical technology and was proud to be a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After college she headed west. She met Rees Williams Jr. in Portland and they married in 1952. He died in the summer of 2002 shortly after the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Williams was an avid golf and bridge player. She also enjoyed taking trips with her family and friends and spending time with her four grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth (Bob) Poole of Vallejo, Calif.; son, Steve (Louise) Williams of Bothell; grandchildren, Lisa and Dan Poole and Luke and Trent Williams; sister Helen Fowler of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, John Jorgenson of Gainsville, Va.; brothers-in-law, Mike Williams of Long Beach and Tom Williams of Belize. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaview with Father Tom Williams SJ celebrant. A luncheon reception follows in the church social hall. Private committal will be in the Williams’ family plot at Ilwaco Cemetery. The family requests memorials to Kaiser Foundation Hospital Hospice, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo, CA 94589.
