Letter: Racism is alive and well in a Long Beach hair salon
Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, September 25, 2007
This past Friday, my son-in-law walked into a local downtown Long Beach salon to get a haircut. The lady working there told him she was busy and would he would have to come back later.
He returned later and was again told that she was too busy. As he was leaving he overheard her make a very negative remark about his Hispanic ethnicity using a racial slur, and saying she would not cut his hair.
Needless to say he was hurt and angry. We all are, as well as being shocked by this kind of treatment. If this employee has this much of a problem dealing with the public, maybe she should consider a different line of work. She has shown us that she felt she was better than my son-in-law and that serving him was beneath her.
I say she should be fired. Hopefully the owner of the salon will find about out this and do something.
