Cheryl Holman hears from famous delegates at GFWC meeting

LONG BEACH – Cheryl Holman of Long Beach, a member of GFWC-Pacific Shores was one of more than 200 women attending the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ board of directors meeting from Sept. 6 through 9 in San Antonio, Texas.

Delegates to the meeting voted on key leadership decisions for the 117-year-old federation, setting the agenda for the future of the leading women’s volunteer organization.

In addition to participating in business sessions, Holman heard presentations by nationally-recognized experts and professionals including:

Heloise, the most famous name in household advice and author of “Heloise to the Rescue.”

Leslie Mouton, anchor and reporter at KSAT-12 in San Antonio, who gained national recognition in October 2000 when she began reporting on her battle with breast cancer.

Becky Ziegel, who with her husband, is the parent of two sons who chose careers in the U.S. Marine Corps. Their oldest was seriously injured in Iraq and has been receiving rehabilitation at the Fisher House in San Antonio.

Lou Lacey, director of Children’s Hospital Intervention and Prevention services in Alabama, which provides health and healing services to individuals affected by sexual or physical abuse.
