KELSO – For the second time in four days an Ilwaco freshman was medalist in a golf match at Kelso as Patrick Whealdon’s 35 sparked the Fishermen to a 194-201 victory over 3A Kelso at their home course of Three Rivers Friday.

Patrick Whealdon’s 35 was one under par as the lefty freshman was hot from the get-go. Junior brother Jack Whealdon was next in line for Ilwaco with a 37 and another frosh, Ryan Kukula came in with an outstanding round of 38. Todd Oakes followed with a 41 and Casey Marsh and Tyler Johnson also had very solid rounds of 43 at Kelso. Every golfer in Ilwaco’s lineup notched extremely effective rounds in one of the most impressive displays of excellence on the links to date.

The match was set up as a three-way, but Prairie High’s team did not show up. The victory over a very strong team from Kelso avenged a loss Tuesday at the same course to the Highlanders. The Fishermen lowered their team score from 226 to 194 and Kelso improved their team score of 204 to 201 during the week.
