OCEAN PARK – What is it about old cars that literally drives people to them? What is the attraction? Is there some deep-seeded connection between man and his machines?
Diptych photography is a style that has gained a cult-like status in recent years, placing photos of seemingly unconnected things side by side, literally fusing them together, to show their sometimes cosmic connection.
When looking forward at the annual Rod Run to the End of the World car show, I knew I wanted to do something different. Something other than another set of pictures of the “proud papas” with their “babies.”
Instead, I thought this may be a good opportunity to give Diptychs a try, as it seems that the similarities in style, colors, shapes and forms are so prevalent between the cars at the show and the people who go and look at them.
I know this isn’t the “norm” in terms of event coverage, but I think that a little fun with an event that’s been around now for 24 years and continuing to go stronger each year it seems, certainly isn’t a bad thing.
