LONG BEACH – Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 10:15 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center will conduct a tsunami warning communications test. The purpose of this test is to evaluate communications for use in dissemination of tsunami warnings and watches.
The National Weather Service office serving Pacific County will participate in this test by disseminating the test tsunami communication message via a monthly test message with special information about the test by NOAA weather radio to residents and through other warning systems to emergency officials.
The Pacific County tsunami warning siren system will not be included in the Sept. 19 test. The siren system has yet to be accepted as complete from the vendor. It is anticipated that a separate test of the siren system will be conducted before the end of the year.
Participating National Weather Service offices will conduct a follow up service evaluation. The general public can participate in post-test feedback at (http://weather.gov/tsunamitest.php).
