ADNA – The young, generally inexperienced Naselle Comets lost their season opening non-league volleyball match 3-1 to the Adna Pirates Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Adna. The game scores were 20-25, 25-18, 23-25 and 22-25.

Naselle coach Kim Eaton said, “Our three seniors, Brandi Keightley, Ashley Ahlstrom and Sylvia Herrold, stood out with their leadership. Brandi was especially strong on defense. We actually held a lead for much of the time in the games but we weren’t quite able to hold it together. We are gaining confidence in out ability to play the game as we get more experience.”

The Comets travel to Mossyrock Thursday, Sept. 13, to take on the state veteran Vikings.

The Naselle Comets volleyball team, under their new coach Kim Eaton, opened the season in a jamboree played in Hoquiam Tuesday, Sept. 4. The format was for each game to be played to a 20 minute maximum, regardless of the score. The Comets finished the day with a 1-3-1 record. The Comets lost to Ocosta 30-37, lost to Valley 32-38, beat Raymond 32-24, tied North Beach 29-29, and lost to South Bend 33-24.

Eaton said, “One of our main objectives was to give everyone some experience as we are so young with only three seniors, only two with experience from last year. All eleven of our players rotated into the games, playing in lots of different positions.”
