Letter: Firefighting in the blood

Regarding the article headlined “Ilwaco Volunteer Fire Department: Twelve decades of dedication” –

My cousin Nancy Homes sent me the link to this article. We found each other through genealogy. She is related to Amos Markham and I am related to Reuben Rogers, who was voted into the Ilwaco Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 in November, 1897. So we are related to a couple of the men who volunteered. I am also at present a battalion chief with North Whidbey Fire and Rescue on Whidbey Island surrounding Oak Harbor. I guess in the end I just wanted to say it must run in the blood to be a firefighter.
