For 44 years, men have gathered at Swiss Park in Frances, Pacific County’s easteren-most town, to take part in a tradition like no other. Donning heavy canvas shorts bound by leather belts, they take to the ring – a small circle of sawdust chips – for the main event. With hands locked into each others belt straps they’re off, spinning and tumbling until one rests on his back, the other the victor.
