BELLEVUE – The Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association has announced spring sports allocations for the next two years. In the 1A classification District IV will have four baseball and softball berths to state each year while both boys and girls track will also have four berths available for both years. Boys golf will have 10 openings at state and girls golf will have five this season and six berths next year.

District IV has 14 schools at the 1A level and statewide 59 play baseball, 56 fastpitch softball, 61 have track and 40 boys and 30 girls teams compete in golf. There are 67 schools in both 2B and 1A divisions in the state.

The number of state tournament allocations in all classifications for all sports is dependent upon the enrollment of schools offering each sport. For example, if 10 of the 14 schools classified as 1A in District IV played soccer, the total enrollment of those 10 schools would be added together and divided by the total number of students in schools offering soccer in the entire state.

That percentage would then be multiplied times the 16 available berths to see how many invitations District IV would have available for the state soccer tournament. Of course, if fewer than 40 schools in a particular classification offer a sport statewide, then the state tourney is limited to eight teams. The same rules apply to the number of berths available in individual sports.
