LONG BEACH – Richard “Dick” Christensen passed away on Feb. 13, 2007, in Long Beach at the age of 87.
He was born Jan. 28, 1920, in LaCenter, the eldest child of Albert and Mary Christensen. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1938.
Mr. Christensen was a U. S. Army veteran who served in Europe during World War II. He worked as a maintenance engineer for the Clark County Road Department, and retired in 1978 after 30 years of service.
He was a longtime member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Vancouver. He recently attended Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview.
A founding member of People’s Community Credit Union, he was a past president and member of the board of directors for an amazing 42 years.
Mr. Christensen was well-known for his beautiful vegetable garden. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. After moving to Long Beach 10 years ago, he kept busy taking cruises, clam digging and sturgeon fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Marilouise; his sister Shirley Krull of Long Beach; son Chris and wife Patricia of Deer Park; son Steve and wife Ann of Spokane; son Chuck and wife Bonnie of Hockinson; daughter Tina Pierce and husband Pat of Vancouver; and daughter Sandi Christensen of Vancouver. He was the proud grandpa of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bob and Albert, Jr. and his sister, Dorothy Tryon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 4300 Main Street, in Vancouver. Burial will be at 11 a.m. at Highland Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a public viewing from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at Layne’s Funeral Home in Battle Ground.
