KALAMA – Ilwaco’s wrestling team finished in last place at the Trico League meet in Kalama Saturday, but the three Fishermen who wrestled each moved on to the District Tournament set for Castle Rock this coming Friday and Saturday.

Jason Schuele decisioned Castle Rock’s John Roden 4-1 to win the 125-lbs. classification and Schuele was the only Ilwaco league champion. Geoff Hylton lost to Mike Collins, also of Castle Rock, by pin at the 4:35 mark in round three of the Trico finals in the 215-lbs. class.

Ikaika Thomas earned third place in league in the 285-lbs. division, defeating Lucas Welsh of LaCenter in his final match as only four competitors were in that weight class. No other information was made available at press time about the league bouts or about the Ilwaco program’s scheduled wrestling competition scheduled at Rochester Jan. 30.

The three Ilwaco wrestlers will compete in the District I, II, III and IV regional tournament against 21 schools from the entire west side of Washington. The prize up for grabs is six berths in each of the 14 weight classifications to the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome to be held Feb. 16 and 17. Castle Rock advanced 22 wrestlers to the regional tournament as they dominated the Trico.
