Sentence finalized

OAKLAND, Calif. – A former Alameda County sheriff’s employee was sentenced to four years in the California state prison Wednesday for the hit-and-run death of California Highway Patrol Officer Brent Clearman, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who grew up on the Peninsula.

Russell Rodrigues, 47, earned the maximum sentence for the felony. Clearman, 33, joining the California Highway Patrol in 2004. He was struck and killed Aug. 5 while on traffic duty. Rodrigues gave himself up two days later.
