Letter: For a new direction, put Dems in charge of Congress

Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Have you noticed that the word change has become very popular? Change is definitely the most used word in this election cycle. The Republican challenger for the U.S. Senate uses it when he asks the voters to change their representation for the next six years. The National Democratic Party and Democratic candidates talk about a change in direction.

Usually you bring about change by voting incumbents out and newcomers in. But that won’t work this year for Pacific County voters. If we are going to have change at the federal level, we must give Democrats a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and/or the U.S. Senate.

It doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or an Independent. What matters is how you vote. If you believe as I do that this nation needs a new direction, vote for change by returning our incumbents, Rep. Brian Baird and Sen. Maria Cantwell to the U.S. Congress.
